Winter 2010 "Four Seasons Sit"

Thanks to John Daniewicz for once again organizing the four seasons sit. Today was a lovely day down in the RiverPlace creek canyon. It was definately chilly enough to keep me awake and attentive. The waterfall was flowing. The breeze was blowing. And to top it all off, there was a BodhiDarmha sighting... :)

(I just had to sneak this picture of William McRae silently illuminating during the first sit above the waterfall. :)

I enjoyed talking to you last week too, and was sorry not to make it to practice this morning. Look forward to talking more about the "strange stuff" that happens in meditation. What you were describing at lunch sounded a lot to me like what in Pali is called the Nimitta, but with the eyes open. With the eyes closed it is more like a solid arising of light and accompanies what is called access concentration. I touch this place on occasion, especially on longer sits, like a day or more......

Hi Todd,

Thanks! It was nice "meeting" you as well. It's amazing how you can be aware of and appreciate someone's presence without speaking to that person. Hope to see you again.

Hey Todd, it was great meeting at the intensive. Look forward to sitting with you more in the future, and thanks for sharing the great pictures. I notice the Mueller "eye black", are y'all part of the Mueller redevelopment? Just curious because I've volunteered at the restored prairie there.

Todd, Thanks for your warm comments on the picture. I took it several years ago when I was living in Northern Virginia. For me, the relevance of the picture as a whole has changed over the years, so I can't say for certain what significance the power lines have. I suppose it is open for interpretation. : )

It was good meeting you and your son is adorable!

Hi Todd, I have much gratitude for you as my mat mate. I had pre-envisioned my space as being kind of a mat-icle (defined as combination of mat and cubicle)... thank goodness that one didn't hold true! It made me happy to look at the pics of your beautiful family, and I look forward to crossing paths in the future. -Keb

I was out of town last week so I missed your note. Sue and I will be back at Live Oak for the Zen sitting this Thursday from 7 to 8:30 PM and I will be back at Appamada this coming Sunday morning.
Hope to see you there. If you did last Thursday's sitting, how did it go?
John

Appamada is not just the occasional mindful thought or attentive state of mind, it’s actually a commitment to being attentive. It’s more than just a meditative state of mind, it’s more than just being mindful. It has to do with that primary ethical or moral orientation we have in life, with which we bring into being whatever activity we’re engaged in. Whether in formal meditation, in our interactions with other people, in our social concerns, or in our political choices, it’s the energetic cherishing of what we regard as good.
